Form & Fancy/ poem by Alexandra Poole

Form & Fantasy

The meadow calls

to me in my sleep

and leaves an impression

so sensate

I must retrace each step

I ditch my phone

and all its unanswered texts

and walk toward or am beckoned by

earth tones with splashes of Blue

Vervain then noticing the others

as if for the first time

with their spidery stems

bird-nesty umbels

and blooms like pathogens

I spy spirals in Fiddleheads

blood droplets in Queen Anne’s Lace

shrubs as unique as snowflakes

the shapes they make both haunting and regal

strange as creatures from outer space or the deep sea

Here, in this meadow I cannot choose

the long dreamed dream is

that in which

I do not draw

and I do not awaken
