“AWOSTING” launches this Summer!

With the Creative Writing track in SUNY New Paltz’s Masters program in English concluding its second year, the students of the Workshop in Fiction & Memoir have launched a pilot project, an anthology journal called AWOSTING. The first issue features the works of ten members of the graduate seminar that was taught by Heinz Insu Fenkl and is edited by the student editorial board. SUNY New Paltz’s Masters program in English includes a course on the teaching of creative writing (a feature typically not found in MFA programs), and it has begun to expand its focus on publishing. Other publications to come out of the SUNY New Paltz English department at the graduate and undergraduate level are The Shawangunk Review and The Stonesthrow Review. The students gain valuable editorial and production experience by working on the journal, applying their academic learning directly to the real world of contemporary publishing, in which digital and paper books are created simultaneously. Profits generated from sales of the anthology will go into an English department fund dedicated to creative writing activities. AWOSTING 1 will be available through Amazon at the end of the summer.
