a meeting place/ poem by Laurence Carr

If you balance your steps
where sea meets shore,
there’s a very real sense
of walking a tightrope.
When you place your foot down,
for the briefest of moments,
a thin line of ocean supports you.
Then, just as quickly, it disappears.

But before it leaves,
you have walked on water
before returning to earth.
