I love the Repair Café. It’s alive
with the sound of things coming
back to life: the zzzing of knives
regaining their edges, the
brup brup brupupup of motors
clearing their throats prior to
running. Fftfftt of lamps
struggling out from under their
bushels, gaining enlightenment.
Chikchikchik sings the sewing
machine, wedding cloth to cloth,
starting zippers on a new track.
We all have so many broken things,
torn pieces of our lives. All the non-
functioning bits and pieces we
treasure and hold fast which lurk
in kitchen drawers, jewelry boxes,
mending baskets. They reproach us,
begging to be fixed. Come to the
Repair Café and be made anew.

Kappa Waugh (author):
Reared in a family where everyone wrote, it never occurred to me not to.
Although I was brought up Southern, I’ve been a happy resident of the Hudson Valley since 1968. Friends, God, food, Hudson Valley Women’s Writing Group
https://www.hudsonvalleywomenswritinggroup.com/ are all part of my support system and my delight. I worked as a Reference Librarian at Vassar College for over 20 years.
